This past week, I decided to enter an essay contest that was being run by our National World War II museum. The due date was originally the thirty-first of March, but they moved it up to last Friday. So Wednesday and Thursday was spent drafting, editing, correcting, and submitting the essay. The prompt was "Why Should Pearl Harbor be remembered?" Now, it was strange to wake up on Friday and hear all about what is going on in Japan--which, if you do not know by now, go google it. To put it in the simplest terms, a 8.9 earthquake hit and then caused a massive, traumatizing tsunami. People are without homes, possessions, power, and now they are faced with multiple nuclear reactor problems.

I want to post a few significant parts of my essay here...just because I refuse to post the entire thing because it was rushed, and therefore, I am not too proud of it.

"At the time that World War II had begun, Americans were willing to turn a blind eye and focus on their country. While it sounds terrible, one must first recognize the turmoil that America was going though at the time. Only about twenty years separated them from the first World War, which had brought immense casualties. Even when it ended, it actually caused greater trouble back on home soil. Conflict came above when the surviving men returned. With the return of so many people meant the need for more jobs, which were unavailable since they had been either eliminated or filled in by the women who had stayed at home while men fought overseas. The high cost of the war also contributed to economical instability. Unemployment rose. A recession began. The United States plunged into the infamous Great Depression, where large amounts of people were left jobless and without a home. As the economy plummeted, so did hope."

"...the phrase "It's Not Our War" summed up the reason American troops were not actually present and fighting in Europe. This line of thinking continued until one infamous day.
The day the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor."

"Americans were blinded by their focus and dedication to their country. While they were busy struggling to keep their homes, jobs, and family safe, they neglected to notice how much suffering the war was bringing overseas. How many English no longer had homes after the German Blitz. How residents of the Soviet Union had to get on the streets to protect their cities. How Chinese women were abducted from their homes by the Japanese in the controversial Nanking Massacre. The Atlantic and Pacific seas created a barrier that made it so that Americans did not see, and therefore, did not have to worry about these atrocities. When the Japanese attacked it was a shock to see their isolation dissolve in front of them. Now American works to reach all around the world through alliances with countries like Japan and England. Efforts are put forth to smother past conflicts, such as Obama's current efforts to sooth tensions with Russia that still seem to linger from the Cold War. Places such as Haiti, Chile, and Africa that need financial aid are acknowledged. Pearl Harbor made us aware that isolation is a weakness, and that any ignorance to foreign affairs only strengthens that weakness."

The focus of my essay was that the attack on Pearl Harbor awakened the American people from the wonderland they thought they could have while European and Asia were in the middle of hell. And because of that, we don't isolate ourself anymore. We create ties and encourage foreign awareness.

One of our best allies is Japan, and to say something against that is inconceivable to me. Despite what they did to us and what we did to them, Japanese-American relations are strong. We invest in each other. We trade with each other. No matter where go in this country, you will find Japanese influence, whether it be in architecture or in pop culture. We have influenced them too.

My point is that this: blog.asiantown.net/-/5475/japa… makes me want to weep for Americans. No wonder why foreigners think we are selfish. No wonder they think we're stupid, uneducated. Because if this is the kind of people that make up our country...then they're right.

Alright, let's get the checklist out, shall we?

Neglected biology homework? Check.

Cosplay
Apparently the Chinese can't tell dates. Because they told me my Russia wig would be here some time between February 28th and March 3rd. It came Friday. The reason I only got it today was because they kept it at the post office since we were not at home when they originally delivered it.
So yus, I have my Ivan wig! It's quite gorgeous. Just gotta get used to the different style of wig, but it's uber comfy and I'm pleased with such. I'll have to be super careful, what with the ash blond such a contrast from my dark brown hair--it wasn't so much a problem with the whole black-against-brown deal with XIon--but I'll get it down to a science. Already I was able to put it on without brown showing.
And my Xion wig is also o-kuh-zay! It had originally gotten a bit flattened after our trip to Disney. I went down during Halloween and cosplayed as her. xD Good times.

School
Midterms are over, and I did quite well! My lowest grade was bio, at 76. Which is pretty good for an honors class, amirite? |D

Video and Film is over, and I learned a lot for when I start making cosplay videos. Whenever that's gonna happen. On to Digital Photography! Maybe I'll make some good stuff to upload here!

Best horror game I have personally seen. Ngl. I first noticed it when made a comic about it, then started raving about it...so I've been watching tutorials almost non-stop. It's brilliant. djkfhkdjshfjsdk. Nuff said.

The patriot grit his teeth, back arching and chin lifting slightly as the fingers glided across his lower back-- stomach nearly flipped over on itself. "Fuck you!" He shouted in desperate retaliation. Digits tightened in the Russian's hair. Teeth biting at the skin and bone where Ivan's collar bones met. It was first down with two minutes to go in the final quarter, and he was down by a touchdown. Ivan had the ball. He could only hope for a fumble.

We're gonna get married...apparently it'll be a cosplay wedding. With fireworks.
